SDSVP Advisory
Board of Directors

Established in 2001, San Diego Social Venture Partners (SDSVP) is a unique organization of successful individuals who invest their talents and resources in innovative non-profits in the greater San Diego community.

Our objective is to help accelerate positive social change by developing the organizational capacity and sustainability of each non-profit we support so that they can become more effective and efficient in achieving their mission.

Since 2001, SDSVP has supported organizations dedicated to:

  • helping at risk children succeed,
  • placing foster children in stable homes,
  • helping disadvantaged teenage moms thrive,
  • eliminating hunger and homelessness,
  • improving the San Diego environment and coastlines.
Each year we pick a new sector to support and become engaged in.
In 2010 we will add two new non-profits in the area of Education.

We are closely affiliated with two wonderful organizations:

 The San Diego Foundation

The San Diego Foundation is San Diego's leading resource for information about charitable giving and community needs. They encourage and support meaningful dialogue on issues affecting each of our communities and work with philanthropists to develop creative solutions to meet critical community needs. Since their inception in 1975, The San Diego Foundation has helped public-spirited citizens find ways to address community problems.  Through the funds they manage, their donors support numerous organizations and serve a variety of community needs. Their donors and funds all share a common purpose: to make San Diego a better place in which to live, work and play. San Diego Social Venture Partners uses The San Diego Foundation as its custodian of funds, and as a partner in making San Diego a better place.

San Diego Social Venture Partners is a field of interest fund with The San Diego Foundation, 501(c)(3). Your donation is tax deductible.

Social Venture Partners International

Social Venture Partners was created in 1997, in Seattle, Washington. The vision of the founders was to build a philanthropic community using a model that paralleled venture capital practices. This model became known as venture philanthropy.  Key tenets of this approach to philanthropy include long-term, highly engaged investments of money, resources and business expertise to develop the capacity and sustainability of local nonprofits (Investees).  As interest in this new approach to philanthropy grew, SVP organizations began developing throughout North America. By 2001, a loose network had formed, and SVP International (SVPI) was created to support and advance this network. As of the summer of 2007, there exist 25 SVP organizations and over 1,800 partner households across North America, with new Affiliates springing up across the globe.
